HELLO!
I’m Armin Maier, an artist from Styria, Austria.
My focus is on photorealistic painting, but my portfolio also includes abstract and illustrative works.
I grew up in a small town in southeast Styria, in Markt Hartmannsdorf.
My artistic streak was always encouraged from an early age, both at home and at school. Therefore the decision to visit the Ortweinschule in Graz to develop my talent was obvious. During this time I became interested in the Swiss artist H.R. Giger, as well as the Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein. The influence of these two artists is reflected in much of my work.
I learned the art of foundry technology in Feldbach and thereby significantly expanded my artistic repertoire.
By constantly dealing with various painting techniques, these now vary from watercolor to ink to pastel and acrylic technique.
In my work it is important to me to reproduce the topics that interest me and that I want to bring closer to the viewer as expressively as possible. By using various painting techniques, I look for the best possible means to implement my works.
In the majority of my art, people with all their peculiarities are at the center of the action. Often it is the psychological abysses and the resulting actions that excite me the most and give my work the depth I want.
My aim is to make the invisible in us visible on paper and to look behind the facade of a fake smile in order to bring out the real person behind it, with all his fears and the love that is in him.
For me, art is a way to deal with these topics and to reproduce them in my own way.
